Does that make Mariah Carey a Christian?
Calling yourself born again and talking about prayer is a strong claim. But do public testimonies and answered prayers automatically make someone a Christian? Maybe. True faith is more than a moment or a miracle story, it is ongoing repentance and trust in Jesus for salvation. Only God knows the heart.
What the Bible says
Jesus said, “With God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26), yet He also taught that we cannot save ourselves. Being born again is not just self improvement, it is spiritual rebirth by the Holy Spirit (John 3:3-8). Making vows to God or receiving blessings is not what saves (Matthew 5:33-37). Salvation comes through faith in Christ’s finished work on the cross and His resurrection.
The Ten Commandments test
Have you lied? Stolen? Used God’s name carelessly? Jesus said lustful thoughts are adultery (Matthew 5:27-28). The Ten Commandments show us we all break God’s law and need mercy. No amount of success or personal testimony can erase our sin.
The gospel, plain and clear
The Bible declares that all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23). The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), but God demonstrates His love in that Christ died for us while we were still sinners (Romans 5:8). Jesus was sinless, died for our sins and rose again. Salvation is a free gift received by grace through faith, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Confess Jesus as Lord and believe God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9-13).
Pray for Mariah Carey
If you follow Christ, pray for Mariah. Thank God for the way she publicly acknowledges Him. Ask the Lord to deepen her understanding of the gospel, to surround her with faithful believers and to sustain her through trials.
If you are not a Christian
God invites you to know Him personally. You can pray something like: “Father, I know I have broken your laws. I believe Jesus died and rose again to forgive me. Please forgive me and make me new.” This prayer won’t save you, Jesus will. Read the Gospel of John and consider His words.
