In recent interviews Bad Bunny has said that he believes God exists but doesn’t see the need for church, and he admits he doesn’t personally pray. During the 2026 Grammy Awards he even thanked God after making a political statement. These quotes show that he is aware of God yet prefers spirituality on his own terms.

Quick facts about Bad Bunny

  • His birth name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio. He was born on March 10, 1994, in San Juan, Puerto Rico and grew up in the municipality of Vega Baja.
  • Before fame he worked as a supermarket bagger while studying at the University of Puerto Rico at Arecibo and uploading songs to SoundCloud.
  • He helped bring reggaeton and Latin trap to mainstream audiences with hits like “Soy Peor,” “I Like It” and “Mía”.
  • His stage name “Bad Bunny” came from a childhood photo of him dressed as a rabbit with a grumpy face.

Does that make Bad Bunny a Christian?

He acknowledges God’s existence and even thanks Him at award shows, but does an occasional shout out or family prayers make someone a Christian? Nope. Saying God is everywhere doesn’t automatically mean you’ve repented and trusted Christ. Not attending church or praying by yourself doesn’t equal a relationship with Jesus. Christianity isn’t cultural spirituality, it’s turning from sin and trusting in Christ.

What the Bible says

God’s omnipresence is real. King David said there’s nowhere we can flee from His Spirit (Psalm 139:7-10). Yet Scripture also instructs believers not to neglect gathering together (Hebrews 10:25), because Christians need the encouragement and accountability of a local church.

Prayer is not a ritual for grandparents to handle on our behalf, it’s a command for all believers. The apostle Paul wrote “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and invited us to “draw near with confidence to the throne of grace” (Hebrews 4:16). Relying on someone else’s prayers while refusing to speak to God shows a heart still far from Him.

Giving thanks to God publicly is good (1 Thessalonians 5:18), but God also requires humility and repentance. Jesus told a parable of a man who boasted before God and went home condemned, while a sinner who cried for mercy was forgiven (Luke 18:9-14). The gospel calls us to trust in Christ’s finished work, not in our own activism or fame.

The Ten Commandments test

Have you ever told a lie? Ever stolen anything, even something small? Have you used God’s name carelessly? Jesus said that looking with lust is adultery in the heart (Matthew 5:27-28). God’s Law exposes us all, famous or not, as lawbreakers. We cannot claim perfection.

The gospel, plain and clear

The Bible teaches that God is holy and just. All of us have sinned and fallen short of His glory (Romans 3:23). The penalty for sin is death (Romans 6:23), but God demonstrated His love by sending Jesus Christ. Jesus lived a sinless life, died on the cross for sinners and rose again. Salvation is a free gift received by grace through faith, not by works (Ephesians 2:8-9). If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9-13).

Pray for Bad Bunny

If you’re a Christian, pray for Bad Bunny. Pray that he will come to know the grace of Christ personally, that he will hunger for God’s Word, and that he will find solid believers who will point him toward repentance and faith. Pray for humility, wisdom and courage to stand for truth.

If you are not a Christian

God offers forgiveness to anyone who will turn from sin and trust in Jesus. You can pray something like this: “Lord, I know I’ve broken your commandments and I deserve judgment. But I believe Jesus died and rose again for me. Please forgive me, change my heart and help me follow You.” The prayer itself doesn’t save, Christ does. Read the Gospel of John and ask God to show you the truth.
